The first stage of The Orivus Fellowship, a professional development initiative powered by Seraph Public Relations and Media, has officially come to an end, with participating fellows now moving into the programme's second stage: evaluation and internship selection.
The completion of the training phase marks a significant milestone for the fellowship, which was designed to address a growing gap between skills acquisition and practical workplace experience among young professionals.
Over the course of the training period, fellows participated in structured classes across different learning tracks, combining instructor-led sessions with practical assignments, collaborative activities and industry engagement.
Rather than positioning the fellowship solely as a classroom-based programme, the organisers built the training around the expectation that participants would eventually have to apply their knowledge in professional environments.
From Learning to Practical Application
Throughout the first stage, fellows were exposed to different areas of professional development depending on their selected tracks.
The training incorporated areas including public relations and media, brand management, social media strategy, AI content creation, SEO and GEO marketing, among others.
Participants also completed practical assignments designed to test their understanding beyond theoretical learning.
For the Public Relations and Media track, for example, fellows worked on activities including brand messaging and PR campaign development, with an increasing emphasis on strategic thinking, communication planning and real-world application.
The fellowship also introduced collaborative projects that brought fellows from different tracks together, allowing participants to work across disciplines rather than learning in isolated groups.
Connecting Fellows With Industry Professionals
Another major component of the first stage was The Orivus Fellowship Leadership & Industry Series.
The series brought experienced professionals into direct conversations with fellows, providing perspectives on careers, professional development, communications, media, personal branding, technology and social impact.
Speakers included professionals working across journalism, media, communications, career development, technology and public speaking.
The objective was to give fellows exposure to people actively working in the industries they hope to enter and to complement classroom learning with practical career perspectives.
The series formed part of the fellowship's broader approach to ensuring that participants understand not only what they are learning, but how those skills are applied in the workplace.
Fellows Now Enter the Evaluation Stage
With the training phase now completed, the fellowship moves into its second stage: evaluation.
The evaluation will assess fellows based on their participation and performance throughout the training period.
Areas being considered include:
- Participation and attendance
- Engagement during training
- Completion of assignments
- Practical projects
- Consistency and commitment
- Application of learned skills
- Overall performance during the programme
The evaluation is particularly important because the number of available internship opportunities is limited.
Following the evaluation, selected fellows will proceed to the internship placement phase, where they will be matched with participating organisations based on factors including their skills, learning track, performance and available opportunities.
Building a Bridge Between Training and Work
Internship placement remains a central part of The Orivus Fellowship's model.
The programme was created around a straightforward challenge: completing a course does not necessarily mean someone is ready for the workplace.
Young professionals can accumulate certificates and theoretical knowledge while still having limited opportunities to work on real assignments, collaborate with teams or understand professional expectations.
The upcoming internship stage will therefore serve as an important transition from learning to professional application.
Selected fellows will have the opportunity to take the skills developed during the training phase into actual work environments through placements with participating internship partners.
What Comes Next
The evaluation process will take place in September 2026, after which selected fellows will be prepared for internship placement.
The fellowship team is currently working with internship partners to prepare for the next stage, with shortlisted fellows expected to be shared with participating organisations for review and onboarding ahead of the internship phase.
Fellows who actively participated in and successfully completed the training stage will also receive Certificates of Completion from The Orivus Fellowship.
For the organisers, the completion of the first stage is less a conclusion than a transition.
The classroom phase may be over, but the more important test is beginning: whether the knowledge, skills and confidence developed during the programme can translate into meaningful professional contribution.
As The Orivus Fellowship moves into its evaluation and internship stages, the focus will shift from what fellows have learned to what they can do with what they have learned.
